Through doctorSHARE’s emergency response capacity, including land-based mobile medical services and the Phinisi Floating Hospital, the initiative helps bring healthcare closer to communities facing barriers to access. The response has also included support for local health facilities with essential medicines and the provision of relief supplies to vulnerable families.
By addressing urgent medical needs during disaster response, FREE complements our broader commitment to improving healthcare access for underserved communities.
Field Stories and Community Health Updates
Through our grantmaking partnership with Yayasan Lentera Kesehatan Nusantara (YLKN), we fund TANGGUH NTT, an initiative supporting early recovery and strengthening community resilience in health following the Flores earthquake.
The program combines essential emergency assistance for vulnerable households with community-based health and psychosocial support. It aims to address priority needs among 2,000 vulnerable households while strengthening the capacity of communities to identify health needs and connect people with appropriate services.
A core component is capacity-building for community cadres and local trainers across seven sub-districts in Nagekeo Regency. The program targets the training of 10 district trainers and 100 community cadres in community preparedness, early identification of health needs and vulnerabilities, risk communication, Psychological First Aid (PFA), and basic psychosocial support.
The program also supports referral and follow-up pathways, supportive supervision, and coordination with local health services and other stakeholders.
By combining immediate relief with investment in local capacity, TANGGUH NTT aims to strengthen community-based health support, improve referral and continuity of care, and contribute to greater preparedness for future emergencies.
Emergency Response and Psychosocial Support
Following the 2026 Flores earthquake, Yayasan Kasira Setia Abadi funded KUN Humanity System+ to deliver a 30-day Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) program for affected communities in Manggarai and East Manggarai, NTT. The program has been completed.
Integrated into KUN’s existing mobile medical response, the program provided psychosocial support alongside essential healthcare services.
Activities included community outreach and Psychological First Aid (PFA), support for frontline health workers, and capacity-building for local primary healthcare centers (Puskesmas) and the District Health Office. The program also focused on strengthening the identification and referral of people who required additional mental health support.
By integrating psychosocial support with existing medical outreach and local health services, the initiative addressed mental health needs during the emergency recovery period while supporting local capacity to respond to psychosocial needs.
